known as white finger bay, near cape bougainville (just south of
troughton island)
trip
started later in the morning, to pass mary island and middle rock at
slack water noon. according to the cruising guide it is supposed to be
rough as guts like frenchs pass in nz (which I surfed through). the only
problem I had was there are 3 rocks none of which is in the middle. one
passage between a rock and the island is safe, the others aren't . so I
looked for the roughest water and went that way. thereafter a pleasant
sail across vansittart bay and here. there are pearl leases all over the
place, this huge bay has one corner accessible to boats. wind was good
but the high is apparently moving east, this place is too rolly to stay
more than 1 night.
